New Oregon code aims to cut energy use 15% in commercial buildings

Oregon has adopted a new energy code that aims to reduce energy usage in new commercial buildings by 15 percent, according to officials in the Department of Consumer and Business Services.
The Energy Efficiency Specialty Code goes into effect July 1 and focuses on three main areas for new construction:
- Requiring increased insulation and higher performing windows.
- Adding automatic lighting controls.
- Requiring more efficient mechanical systems such as higher efficiency furnaces.
